vivo has taken a significant step toward entering the mixed reality (MR) market with a public preview of its first MR headset, the vivo Vision, during the Boao Forum for Asia in China. Months after the initial announcement earlier this year, attendees finally had the chance to test the device and share their first impressions.
Han Boxiao, product manager for vivo, highlighted several key features during the showcase. He emphasized that the headset is designed to be light and comfortable, a sentiment echoed by many testers. According to Han, the vivo Vision is comparable in weight to Apple’s AirPods Max, still substantial, but noticeably lighter than most VR and MR headsets currently available.
A unique aspect of the device’s design is its external battery pack, which connects via a visible cable from the headset. This choice not only reduces the weight on the user’s head but also contributes to longer usage times without compromising comfort. The setup drew attention when CCTV host Zhu Guangquan was photographed testing the headset, with one image in particular capturing the headset’s cable-and-battery arrangement.
While vivo has yet to announce an official launch date, Han confirmed that the release is “coming soon.” According to Chinese media outlet IT Home, internal testing is already underway, and the device is expected to debut in the second half of the year.
The vivo Vision marks the company’s first foray into the growing MR market, signaling its ambition to compete in a space dominated by global tech leaders. With comfort-focused engineering and a streamlined weight distribution, vivo appears poised to position the Vision as a more wearable alternative to heavier competitors.
