In an inspiring blend of youth-driven innovation and cultural diplomacy, 13-year-old Alia Kong, a Chinese student from Hong Kong, is using cutting-edge metaverse technology to build a virtual bridge between Chinese and Saudi students.
As the founder of the Superbund Alpha Project, Kong aims to create immersive digital experiences that allow students to connect across borders, learn about one another’s traditions, and celebrate cultural diversity through personalized virtual avatars and workshops. Her initiative leverages spatial computing, blockchain, and the creative power of Generation Alpha to foster cross-cultural understanding.
“I want to create that connection between Riyadh and Hong Kong,” Kong told. “Imagine being able to recreate your cultural heritage digitally—prompting it with words and images—and then share it in an interactive space.”
The project offers students from both countries the opportunity to design their own virtual environments, present aspects of their culture, and participate in live virtual events. One such initiative, the Superbund Event Day, will be hosted simultaneously in Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong—both virtually and in person—in July 2025. More than 100 students from Hong Kong, mainland China, Saudi Arabia, and Canada are expected to attend.
Kong’s fascination with Saudi Arabia began at an early age, inspired by her godfather, Alaudeen Alaskary, the former Saudi consul-general in Hong Kong and now the honorary advisor to the Superbund Virtual Exchange Program. His stories and weekly cultural gatherings introduced her to the warmth and vibrancy of Saudi society.
“He showed me the culture and lifestyle of Saudi Arabians,” Kong said. “I love attending his Saturday gatherings. They are very warm and loving—we all enjoy each other’s company.”
Kong’s journey into social innovation began when she was just eight years old, co-founding the Kids Power Society, a student-led nonprofit promoting cultural education, mental wellness, and global positivity. Since then, the group has published four science fiction books with contributions from 125 children worldwide, donating proceeds to the BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver and Hong Kong’s Sowers Action.
Looking ahead, Kong envisions the Superbund Virtual Society as a platform where digital creations—avatars, stories, spaces—are registered on the blockchain, forming a new ecosystem of youth-generated cultural content.
“I believe the older generation builds the hardware and infrastructure,” she explained. “But it’s up to us, the younger generation, to design the software—our culture, our connections, and our creative expressions. Together, we can bridge that generational gap.”
Kong’s metaverse diplomacy not only demonstrates the promise of emerging technologies in cultural exchange but also reflects a growing movement of tech-savvy youth taking global dialogue into their own hands—redefining what it means to connect across borders in the digital age.

What an inspiring initiative, Alia! Bridging cultures through the metaverse is a brilliant way to foster understanding. Can’t wait to see how your project unfolds! Keep pushing boundaries!
