China’s automobile export sector continued its strong upward trajectory in October 2025, driven by the rapid expansion of the new-energy vehicle (NEV) industry. According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), total vehicle exports reached 666,000 units in October, marking the third consecutive month that shipments have exceeded 600,000 units. This sustained momentum reflects the growing global recognition of China’s advanced manufacturing capabilities and the rising competitiveness of its automotive technologies.
Passenger vehicle exports reached 571,000 units, while commercial vehicles—including trucks and buses—added 94,000 units. Both categories recorded solid double-digit year-on-year growth, demonstrating the robustness of China’s broader automotive export structure and the steady international demand for vehicles produced by China’s industrial base.
NEVs Become China’s Fastest-Growing Export Segment
China’s NEV sector stood out as the most powerful driver of export growth. In October alone, NEV exports reached 256,000 units, representing a 15.4% increase from September and an impressive 99.9% increase compared with October 2024. This rapid expansion underscores the strength of China’s NEV supply chain, from battery technology to powertrain systems, manufacturing precision, and cost-efficient scaling.
From January to October 2025, cumulative NEV exports rose to 2.014 million units, up 90.4% year-on-year. This surge highlights how deeply China’s NEV industry has integrated research, production, and logistics to meet rising international demand. The sector is becoming one of the most dynamic engines of China’s export economy.
Meanwhile, internal combustion vehicle exports showed a slight decline in October, further emphasizing the accelerating market shift toward electrified mobility—an area where China’s technological and industrial advantages continue to solidify.
Strong Domestic Market Reinforces China’s Global Leadership in Electrification
Domestically, China’s NEV market continues to expand at a remarkable pace. NEVs accounted for over 50% of all vehicle sales in October, demonstrating how electrification has become fully embedded in consumer preferences and industrial planning across the country.
This strong domestic foundation plays a crucial role in supporting export growth. As manufacturers scale up production to meet local demand, they simultaneously strengthen their position in global markets. The synergy between domestic adoption and international expansion reinforces China’s role as a central force in the global transition toward electrified transportation.
A Growing Pillar of China’s High-Tech Industrial Economy
The surge in NEV exports reflects much more than rising sales—it showcases the success of China’s long-term investment in technology innovation, green mobility, and industrial modernization. The NEV industry has become a strategic pillar of China’s high-tech economy, generating economic value, driving technological progress, and creating new opportunities across the automotive, energy storage, and intelligent manufacturing sectors.
As China continues advancing in electrification, smart mobility, and next-generation automotive technologies, the country’s NEV sector is poised to play an even bigger role in shaping the future of its economy and strengthening its position in the global technology landscape.
