Xpeng G7 Arrives in China: A New Tech-Driven SUV with 702 KM Range and AR-HUD

Xpeng has officially launched its latest electric SUV, the G7, in the Chinese market. Priced from 195,800 yuan (~$27,325 USD), the G7 represents a bold step in blending intelligent mobility, luxury-grade comfort, and next-generation design into a mid-size crossover that’s aimed squarely at tech-savvy drivers and modern families.

In less than an hour after its release, the G7 secured over 10,000 pre-orders in just 46 minutes, signaling strong domestic interest. It becomes the seventh model in Xpeng’s growing portfolio and brings several innovations into the mainstream EV segment.

The G7 adopts Xpeng’s second-generation “X Face” design, emphasizing aerodynamic performance with a drag coefficient of just 0.238 Cd. The body measures 4,892 mm long with a 2,890 mm wheelbase, allowing for a spacious five-seat layout. Slim LED running lights connected by a light bar dominate the front fascia, while the rear showcases a bold “Star Ring” taillight and roof spoiler. The vehicle is offered in six body colors: dark gray, silver, white, black, beige, and green.

Inside, the G7 feels futuristic and minimal. Xpeng has eliminated physical buttons on the center console, instead opting for a floating 15.6-inch touchscreen powered by the Snapdragon 8295 chip. A standout feature is the 87-inch Augmented Reality Head-Up Display (AR-HUD) co-developed with Huawei, offering real-time navigation, intersection guidance, and dynamic lane prompts—all projected seamlessly into the driver’s field of view.

Passengers can expect a thoughtfully designed and luxurious environment. The G7’s interior materials include real wood, genuine leather, and metal accents, with color themes available in blue, light gray, orange, and dark gray. The SUV offers 39 separate storage compartments, including a 10.1-liter deep armrest space, a 5.9-liter lockable glove box, and even a 120-liter underfloor storage compartment in the trunk. With the rear seats folded, cargo capacity expands to an impressive 2,277 liters.

Performance-wise, the G7 is powered by a rear-wheel-drive electric motor producing 218 kW (292 hp). It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and brakes from 100 km/h in just 35.8 meters. The vehicle offers two LFP battery options—68.5 kWh and 80.8 kWh—delivering a CLTC range between 602 and 702 km, depending on configuration. With 5C fast charging, the G7 can recover 436 km of range in only 10 minutes. It also supports V2L functionality at up to 6 kW, enabling users to power external devices.

A major highlight is the G7’s AI-powered suspension system, which actively analyzes road conditions in real-time and adjusts within 200 milliseconds to maintain ride comfort. This contributes to a quiet, smooth, and responsive driving experience even on rougher surfaces.

The G7 also introduces impressive features for second-row passengers, including an 8-inch touchscreen for adjusting climate and media, a fold-out table, and a wireless charging pad with built-in cooling. The SUV includes dual 50W wireless charging pads in the front, a 20-speaker 7.1.4 surround sound system, and a 256-color ambient lighting system for a full sensory driving experience.

On the tech side, Xpeng integrates its proprietary XNGP driver assistance platform, with the G7 Ultra trim featuring three Turing AI chips that provide 2,250 TOPS of computing power. These chips enable advanced L3 capabilities, including online learning and multi-modal perception. The system is scheduled for activation via OTA update by December 2025. Lower trims are equipped with dual Nvidia Orin-X chips offering 508 TOPS, ensuring powerful ADAS performance across the board.

Safety has also been engineered to a high standard. The G7 meets C-NCAP 2024 five-star criteria, with a body that delivers torsional rigidity of 41,600 Nm/degree and a battery encased in 1,500 MPa steel for structural protection. The vehicle is equipped with 11 cameras and three mm-wave radars, enabling it to handle complex AEB scenarios even at night or inside tunnels.

The top-tier G7 Ultra is priced at 225,800 yuan (~$31,510 USD) and includes extras like Nappa leather and power doors for early buyers. Meanwhile, the G7 Max trim starts at 205,800 yuan (~$28,720 USD) for the 702 km range version and 195,800 yuan (~$27,325 USD) for the 602 km variant.

With intelligent design, AI-enhanced comfort, industry-leading AR integration, and strong range capabilities, the Xpeng G7 delivers a forward-looking electric SUV that feels as much like a tech product as it does a vehicle. It reflects Xpeng’s vision for the future of smart mobility—bold, immersive, and unmistakably high-tech.
